Cattle and Snowy Egrets in Cool, Texas

Egrets in Cool, TX

Coming back from the Parker County Peach Festival, Desi and I detoured through Cool, Texas. There was a stock pond left roadside that was being visited by several Cattle Egrets and a couple of Snowy Egrets. Goats and a single Llama stood close-by and watched over the watering hole.

Cattle Egrets are small white herons, the Cattle Egret is more at home foraging in grass than in water but these were found right by the water and flying overhead. There were several Snowy Egrets mixed in with the flocks. The Snowy Egret is found in small ponds around Palo Pinto county as well as at the lake. Its black legs and yellow feet quickly identify it.

Snowy and Cattle Egrets

Desi and I took a short road trip to Possum Kingdom. Large white birds where scattered along the back of the fish hatchery just south of the dam and Possum Kingdom Lake.
